Wholesale PricingThe ANSUL SENTRY AA20-1 is a 20-lb stored-pressure ABC dry chemical fire extinguisher designed for the protection of light and ordinary hazard occupancies. ABC dry chemical, monoammonium phosphate, is a multipurpose agent that works on Class A fires (ordinary combustibles like wood, paper, and cloth), Class B fires (flammable liquids like gasoline, oil, and grease), and Class C fires (live electrical equipment). That versatility makes the AA20-1 the go-to general-purpose extinguisher for virtually any commercial or industrial setting.
SENTRY extinguishers are built around a seamless steel cylinder with extruded aluminum, brass, or plated steel components. The AA20-1 is USCG approved with the proper bracket, making it suitable for marine vessel use in addition to the standard commercial and industrial applications. The extinguisher shell is 100% factory air tested in excess of 600 PSI before it leaves the factory, and a large easy-to-read pressure gauge makes monthly visual inspections straightforward. If the needle is in the green zone, the extinguisher is charged and ready. A 6-year limited warranty from the date of delivery covers the original end-user purchaser.
The AA20-1 is found in auto repair shops, electrical equipment rooms, machining operations, warehouses, banks, offices, schools, hotels, and material handling vehicle fleets basically anywhere a reliable, general-purpose fire extinguisher is needed. Economically priced without sacrificing performance, the SENTRY line meets or exceeds the requirements of ANSI/UL 299 and 711. It is rechargeable, meaning after any discharge a licensed fire extinguisher service technician can recharge and return it to service rather than replacing the entire unit.

The AA20-1 is designed for light and ordinary hazard occupancies — the broad middle tier of commercial and industrial fire risk that covers the majority of workplaces. Common installations include:
- Auto repair shops and garages
- Electrical equipment rooms and server rooms
- Machining operations and manufacturing floors
- Material handling vehicles and forklifts (with proper USCG bracket for marine use)
- Banks, offices, and schools
- Hotels and hospitality facilities
- Warehouses and distribution centers
The 20-lb capacity is a step up from the 10-lb units typically mounted in corridors and common areas. At 20 lbs, the AA20-1 provides a larger agent charge suitable for higher-risk areas where a fire could grow quickly before it's reached. 2.5 lb and 5 lb SENTRY units are also available for lighter-duty or vehicle-mounted applications.
Monthly Visual Inspection
Check the pressure gauge monthly; the needle must be in the green zone. Verify the pull pin is in place and the tamper seal is intact. Confirm the extinguisher is in its designated mounting location and accessible. If anything looks wrong, contact a licensed fire extinguisher service technician immediately. Document the monthly check on the extinguisher inspection tag.
Annual Inspection
A licensed fire extinguisher service technician must perform a full NFPA 10 annual inspection every 12 months. This includes checking the cylinder exterior, operating lever, hose and horn, pressure gauge, pull pin, and all labels. The technician updates the fire extinguisher inspection tags and documents the service in the annual inspection record. Any deficiency found must be corrected before the extinguisher is returned to service.
6-Year Internal Examination and Recharge
At the 6-year mark, the AA20-1 requires an internal examination per NFPA 10. The dry chemical agent is inspected for caking or contamination, all internal components are checked, and the valve is rebuilt before recharging. This service resets the extinguisher for another 6-year service cycle.
12-Year Hydrostatic Test
At 12 years, the cylinder undergoes hydrostatic pressure testing at a certified facility. Cylinders that pass receive a new date stamp and return to service. Cylinders that fail are condemned and replaced.
Can the AA20-1 be used on a kitchen grease fire?
No. ABC dry chemical extinguishers are not rated for Class K commercial cooking oil fires. For kitchen grease fires on deep fryers, ranges, and griddles, a Class K wet chemical extinguisher is required. The AA20-1 is an excellent choice for the non-cooking areas of a restaurant: the dining room, hallways, electrical panels, and storage areas. It should never be the primary response tool for cooking equipment fires. A Class K extinguisher must be installed in the kitchen itself per NFPA 96.
What does "stored pressure" mean?
Stored pressure means the dry chemical agent and the propellant nitrogen are stored together in the same cylinder under pressure at all times; as opposed to cartridge-operated designs where a separate nitrogen cartridge punctures to pressurize the agent at the time of discharge. Stored pressure extinguishers are simpler to operate and inspect, which is why they dominate commercial and industrial installations. The large pressure gauge on the AA20-1 gives you an instant visual on whether the extinguisher is charged.
Is the AA20-1 rechargeable after use?
Yes. After any discharge, a licensed fire extinguisher service technician can internally inspect, recharge with fresh ABC dry chemical agent, and return the AA20-1 to service. This is more cost-effective than replacement for a quality unit like the SENTRY. Call your local fire extinguisher service company as soon as possible after any discharge. The kitchen or facility should not be considered fully protected until the extinguisher is back in service.
