Wholesale PricingThe Amerex 16501 Support Clips are the OEM hardware for routing and securing 1/4" pneumatic detection tubing in Amerex Kitchen Protection (KP) systems. Sold in a 5-pack, these corrosion-resistant steel clips carry a high-visibility red powder coat finish that allows inspectors to quickly verify that the detection network is properly supported and unobstructed. Using genuine Amerex clips is required to maintain the system's UL listing compliance.
Pneumatic detection tubing relies on a pressurized internal charge to actuate the suppression system. If the tubing sags excessively between support points, it can fall outside the calibrated heat zone defined in the system design, delaying or preventing thermal detection. The 16501 clips enforce a maximum 18-inch span that keeps the tubing consistently positioned to sense a thermal event. The clips also provide an air gap between the tubing and the hood metal, preventing heat-sinking where the cold metal surface would draw thermal energy away from the tubing and delay reaction time.

The 18-Inch Spacing Mandate
Clip spacing must not exceed 18 inches along the detection line run. This keeps the tubing within the sensory envelope defined in the Amerex KP system design and prevents sag that could move the tubing out of the active heat zone above protected appliances.
Terminal Point Support
A 16501 clip is required within 1 inch of every end-of-line fitting. Without this support, mechanical leverage from the unsupported tubing can stress and loosen the pneumatic fitting seal over time.
Zero-Scrape Installation
Mount clips to the hood surface with screws first, then snap the tubing in from the front. Never pull tubing through a clip after mounting -- dragging the polymer tubing through the clip can score the surface and create micro-leaks in the pressurized detection line.
Corner and Bend Routing
When routing detection tubing through corners, place clips close on both sides of the bend to maintain a consistent radius. This prevents kinking, which can restrict or block the pneumatic signal from reaching the control head.
Can I use standard stainless steel clips instead of these red ones?
While stainless versions exist, the red powder coat finish is the Amerex KP industry standard. It allows inspectors to immediately verify that the detection network is properly supported and unobstructed during semi-annual and annual walkthroughs.
How many clips do I need for a typical installation?
Clip count depends on the total tubing run length. At a maximum 18-inch spacing with mandatory clips at every end-of-line fitting and both sides of every corner bend, larger kitchen batteries typically require multiple 5-packs. It is best practice to calculate your run length and add 20% for corner placements before ordering.
Can these clips be reused during a system overhaul?
Clips that show no signs of corrosion, deformation, or coating damage can generally be reused. However, any clip that no longer provides a firm snap-fit grip on the tubing should be replaced to maintain proper spacing compliance.
