Description
Pyro-Chem PCL-300 Agent Cylinder with Valve | 3.0 Gallon | Kitchen Knight II | 551194

The Pyro-Chem PCL-300 (P/N 551194) is the 3.0-gallon (11.4 L) agent cylinder and valve assembly for the Pyro-Chem Kitchen Knight II Restaurant Fire Suppression System. It ships pre-filled with Pyro-Chem wet chemical agent and pre-charged with dry nitrogen to 225 psig at 70 degrees F (15.5 bar at 21 degrees C). The wet valve assembly is a pressure-sealed poppet-type valve that provides rapid actuation and discharge of agent when the control head actuates the cylinder.

The PCL-300 is one of four cylinder sizes in the Kitchen Knight II product line: PCL-160 (P/N 553163), PCL-300 (P/N 551194), PCL-460 (P/N 551193), and PCL-600 (P/N 551196). The number designates the agent capacity. The PCL-300 supports a maximum of 10 flow points in the system design, which determines the number and types of nozzles the cylinder can supply. The cylinder meets DOT requirements and is manufactured and tested to those standards.

The PCL-300 cylinder assembly requires a separate control head (mechanical MCH3 or electric ECH3 series) mounted to the cylinder valve to actuate the system. The MB-1 mounting bracket kit (P/N 550053) is also ordered separately. Installation must be performed by a certified Pyro-Chem Kitchen Knight II distributor.

The Kitchen Knight II system is a pre-engineered wet chemical fire suppression system under NFPA 17A and NFPA 96. The PCL-300 cylinder assembly must be installed, inspected, and serviced by a certified Pyro-Chem Kitchen Knight II distributor.

  • Control Head Required: The cylinder does not actuate on its own. A compatible control head (MCH3 mechanical or ECH3 electric) must be mounted to the cylinder valve to connect the system's detection and actuation network.
  • Flow Point Verification: The total flow points of all nozzles in the system design must not exceed the PCL-300's maximum capacity of 10 flow points. The certified installer verifies flow point allocation against the cylinder model during system design.
  • Semiannual Service: Per NFPA 17A, the cylinder must be inspected at each required semiannual service interval. The inspection includes verifying agent fill weight, nitrogen pressure, valve condition, and control head operation.
  • Hydrostatic Testing: The cylinder requires hydrostatic testing after 12 years from the date of manufacture, and every 6 years thereafter, per applicable pressure vessel regulations.
  • Post-Discharge: After any actuation, the cylinder must be returned to a certified Pyro-Chem Kitchen Knight II distributor for refilling, recharging, and inspection before returning the system to service.

Is the control head included with the PCL-300 cylinder assembly?

No. The PCL-300 (P/N 551194) is the agent cylinder and valve assembly only. The mechanical control head (MCH3) or electric control head (ECH3 series) and the MB-1 mounting bracket kit (P/N 550053) must be ordered separately. Contact your certified Pyro-Chem Kitchen Knight II distributor to confirm the correct control head and bracket for your installation.

Can I use the PCL-300 cylinder with a larger system that has more than 10 flow points?

No. A single PCL-300 cylinder is rated for a maximum of 10 flow points. If the system design requires more than 10 flow points, a larger cylinder (PCL-460 or PCL-600) or a multi-cylinder system configuration is required. The certified Kitchen Knight II installer determines the correct cylinder size during system design.

Can the PCL-300 be refilled after discharge?

Yes, but only by a certified Pyro-Chem Kitchen Knight II distributor using the correct Pyro-Chem wet chemical agent. Field refilling or use of non-Pyro-Chem agent voids the system's UL 300 listing and is not permitted under NFPA 17A. The cylinder must also be inspected and the nitrogen charge verified before returning to service.
