Wholesale PricingThe Evergreen #304 (QSA10/304) is a compression seal for 1/2-inch pipe, designed for use where 1/2-inch supply pipe or 1/2-inch EMT conduit passes through the wall of a commercial kitchen exhaust hood, duct, or other surface as part of a restaurant fire suppression system installation. The compression seal creates a fire-impeding barrier around the pipe at the point of penetration, preventing flames, heat, and grease-laden vapors from passing through the opening from the cooking area into the hood or duct wall cavity.
Hood penetration seals are required at every point where discharge piping, conduit, or detection cable passes through the hood wall. Without a proper seal at these penetrations, a grease fire can travel through the opening into areas not protected by the suppression system, or flames from a duct fire can extend through the opening in the opposite direction. Evergreen produces a range of hood penetration seals, and the #304 is compatible with the installation requirements of major restaurant suppression systems including the Ansul R-102, Pyro-Chem Kitchen Knight II, Badger Range Guard, and Amerex KP. Your authorized fire suppression distributor confirms the correct seal type and size for each penetration in the specific system installation.

Why is a penetration seal required at every pipe entry point on the hood?
NFPA 96 (Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations) requires that all openings through the hood and duct be sealed to prevent fire spread through penetrations. An unsealed opening at a pipe entry point creates a path for fire and hot gases to travel between the cooking area and the interior of the hood or duct wall, bypassing the protected area.
Can I use this seal with 1/2-inch EMT conduit as well as pipe?
Yes. The #304 compression seal is compatible with both 1/2-inch supply pipe and 1/2-inch EMT conduit, which is the conduit size typically used for the detection cable runs in restaurant fire suppression systems.
