The Ansul / Pyro-Chem 551527 is a UL Listed fusible link rated at 500°F, in the ML / A-PC style design, for use in the detection network of the Ansul R-102, Pyro-Chem Kitchen Knight II, and Monarch restaurant fire suppression systems. This is the highest temperature-rated link in the ML-style family and is specified for detector locations where the maximum normal ambient temperature reaches up to 400°F, such as directly above solid-fuel or wok cooking appliances that generate extreme sustained heat during service.

Fusible links are the automatic detection sensors of these pre-engineered kitchen suppression systems. Each link is a two-part assembly held together by a heat-sensitive alloy solder. The link is installed in a detector hook assembly and connected to the detection cable running back to the AUTOMAN or NMCH release mechanism. During normal operation, the link holds the cable under tension, keeping the release mechanism cocked and ready. When a fire raises the temperature at the link's location to its rated separation temperature, the solder melts and the link separates, releasing cable tension throughout the detection run and triggering the release mechanism to discharge agent over the protected appliances.

Selecting the Correct Temperature Rating

Fusible link temperature selection is based on the maximum normal ambient temperature at the detector location, not the expected fire temperature. ML-Style vs K-Style Links

The ML-style (also called A-PC style) is the physical design of this link family and is distinct from the K-style (also called SL-style) used in other detector bracket configurations in the same systems. The two styles are not interchangeable: ML-style links require ML-style detector hook assemblies, and K-style links require K-style hook assemblies. The detector bracket assembly type in the system design determines which link style is correct for each detector location.

Mandatory Annual Replacement

Per NFPA 17A and Ansul's own installation and service documentation, fusible links must be replaced, not merely inspected, at every semiannual service interval. A link that has been exposed to 12 months of cooking heat may appear intact but have accumulated enough thermal stress to alter its separation temperature, which is why replacement is mandatory regardless of visible condition.
