Description
Pyro-Chem Kitchen Knight II 1L Nozzle | Low Proximity | 1 Flow Point | 551026 | Sold Individually

The Pyro-Chem 551026 is the 1L nozzle for the Pyro-Chem Kitchen Knight II Restaurant Fire Suppression System. "1L" designates a low-proximity nozzle that consumes 1 flow point from the Kitchen Knight II system cylinder. Low-proximity placement means the nozzle is positioned closer to the cooking surface than the companion high-proximity nozzle (2H, P/N 551028, 2 flow points), allowing it to serve appliances in tighter hood configurations. The 1L nozzle is specifically designed for low-proximity griddle and low-proximity radiant charbroiler protection per the Kitchen Knight II Design Manual (P/N 551274).

The Kitchen Knight II system uses a potassium carbonate-based wet chemical agent discharged through a pre-engineered piping network. When the system actuates via automatic fusible link or manual pull station, pressurized wet chemical agent flows through the discharge nozzles and onto the protected appliances. The agent suppresses grease fires through cooling and chemical reaction with the hot cooking oil, forming a foam blanket that inhibits re-ignition. The system protects kitchen hoods, plenums, exhaust ducts, grease filters, and cooking appliances including fryers, griddles, range tops, upright broilers, charbroilers, and woks, with each position in the system requiring the nozzle type and placement parameters specified in the design manual for that appliance type.

1L Nozzle Coverage Specifications

For low-proximity griddle protection: the 1L nozzle is mounted above any corner of the griddle hazard surface, 10 to 24 inches above the cooking surface, and aimed at a point 12 inches over and 12 inches in from the corner. Maximum protected griddle area is 1,080 square inches with a longest side not exceeding 36 inches.

For low-proximity radiant charbroiler protection: the 1L nozzle is mounted anywhere on the perimeter of the charbroiler hazard surface, 13 to 24 inches above the cooking surface, and aimed at the center of the broiler surface. Maximum protected charbroiler area is 864 square inches with a longest side not exceeding 36 inches.

Companion Nozzle 2H High-Proximity Nozzle P/N 551028 (2 Flow Points)

The Kitchen Knight II system is a pre-engineered wet chemical system under NFPA 17A. Installation and service must be performed by a certified Pyro-Chem Kitchen Knight II distributor following the Kitchen Knight II Design Manual (P/N 551274).

  • Nozzle Placement is Appliance-Specific: The 1L nozzle mounting position, height, and aim point must match the exact parameters specified in the design manual for the protected appliance type. Placement outside these parameters voids the system's UL 300 listing for that appliance position.
  • Swivel Adapter Available: A swivel adapter is available to allow the nozzle to be rotated approximately 30 degrees in all directions for correct aiming without rotating the fixed discharge piping.
  • Semiannual Service: All nozzles are inspected for blockage, physical damage, correct positioning, and aim at each required semiannual service visit per NFPA 17A.

What is the difference between the 1L and the 2H nozzle?

The 1L (P/N 551026) is the low-proximity nozzle (1 flow point), positioned 10 to 24 inches above the griddle or 13 to 24 inches above the charbroiler. The 2H (P/N 551028) is the high-proximity nozzle (2 flow points), positioned higher above the cooking surface (24 to 48 inches for griddle). Each is appropriate for different hood configurations and appliance geometries. The certified Pyro-Chem installer determines which nozzle type is correct for each position based on the actual hood and appliance layout.

Can the Kitchen Knight II system protect multiple appliance types with a single cylinder?

Yes. The Kitchen Knight II system is designed to protect a combination of appliances, plenums, and ducts using a pre-engineered piping network from one or more cylinders. The total number of nozzles and the nozzle types allowed per cylinder are specified in the design manual's piping and nozzle selection tables.
