In a total flood application, the nozzle discharges agent from an overhead or upper-perimeter position to fill an enclosed hazard space with enough dry chemical agent to extinguish a fire anywhere in that volume, rather than targeting a specific surface. The Industry Guard system is Badger's pre-engineered dry chemical system for industrial high-hazard applications including spray booths, dip tanks, mixing rooms, and similar occupancies, and is governed by NFPA 17 (Dry Chemical Extinguishing Systems).
The nozzle family for the Badger Industry Guard system includes this total flooding nozzle, along with a three-way nozzle (P/N 83-100037-001) for pit, tunnel, or plenum/stack interface applications, and a tankside nozzle (P/N WK-259072-000) for side-mounted local application. Each nozzle type is specified based on the protected hazard geometry and the discharge pattern required by the system design. Total flood protection fills an enclosed space with enough dry chemical agent to extinguish any fire within that volume, regardless of where the fire is located. Local application directs agent specifically at the surface or object that is burning, without attempting to flood the entire space. The correct approach for a given hazard is determined during system design based on the hazard geometry, the presence or absence of enclosure walls, and the nature of the burning materials.
Can this nozzle be used in other dry chemical systems?
No. This nozzle is specifically designed and listed for use in the Badger Industry Guard system. Its orifice dimensions, flow characteristics, and discharge patterns have been tested and listed for that system's specific design parameters. Using it in another manufacturer's system would be outside the component's listing and void that system's certification.
