E-FireX 2L Fire Extinguisher

The E-FireX EFX-4LB is a 2-liter portable fire extinguisher filled with TRPL-E encapsulator agent — E-FireX's patented all-natural mineral-based formula designed specifically for lithium battery fires. At 4 pounds and 12.5 inches tall, it is the compact unit in the E-FireX lineup, built for household use, personal vehicles, RVs, golf carts, UTVs, and anywhere a full-size extinguisher is impractical but lithium battery fire risk is present.

Every lithium-powered device in your home or vehicle — laptops, e-bikes, power tool batteries, home power walls, and EV charging equipment — carries the risk of thermal runaway, a self-sustaining chain reaction inside a lithium cell that generates extreme heat and toxic gases and cannot be stopped with a standard dry chemical or CO2 extinguisher. The EFX-4LB is factory-pressurized to 100 PSI with nitrogen, has a 24-second discharge time, and reaches 14 to 18 feet — giving you enough range and duration to apply TRPL-E safely from a distance on a developing fire before it escalates.

The cylinder is stainless steel with a plated brass valve. It comes with a wall mounting bracket included, making it straightforward to mount near your home charging station, garage, RV electrical compartment, or vehicle. It carries a UL/ULC rating of 1-A:D:C, USCG Type A Size II approval for marine use, and is recognized under NFPA 18A wetting agent guidelines.

Important Note on Classification: Underwriter Laboratories has not established specific test criteria for lithium-ion battery fire protection, and NFPA does not currently recognize a standalone fire hazard classification specifically for lithium-ion battery fires. Lithium-ion battery fires are addressed within existing fire classifications depending on the materials involved, with suppression strategies typically emphasizing sustained cooling consistent with Class A fire response principles. E-FireX is actively working with NFPA on draft language for a new "L" classification for lithium battery fires.

Standard fire extinguishers are not designed for lithium battery thermal runaway. Dry chemical agents interrupt the chemical chain reaction of a conventional fire, but they cannot cool a lithium cell fast enough to stop the internal electrochemical reaction that keeps generating heat from within. CO2 smothers a fire by displacing oxygen, but again does nothing to cool the cell or stop thermal runaway from continuing internally. TRPL-E works through a different mechanism entirely.

• Rapid Cell Cooling: The water content in TRPL-E absorbs heat from burning cells immediately on contact. Lithium battery fires can exceed 2,500°F during thermal runaway — rapid surface cooling is the first priority to interrupt the chain reaction.
• Physical Encapsulation: The all-natural mineral solids in the formula form a barrier around the affected cells, trapping flammable vapors and toxic off-gassing and cutting off external oxygen supply.
• Re-ignition Prevention: The encapsulating barrier remains in place after discharge and continues to suppress residual heat — the primary cause of lithium battery fires re-igniting hours after initial suppression.
• No Abrasive Residue: Unlike dry chemical agents, TRPL-E is non-abrasive and non-corrosive. It will not damage electronics, circuit boards, or sensitive equipment in the discharge area.

The 2-liter EFX-4LB is sized for personal and residential use where compact form factor matters:

• Home and Garage: Mount near your home power wall, lithium battery bank, EV charging station, or home workshop where lithium-powered tools are stored and charged.
• Personal Vehicles and EVs: Keep in the vehicle cabin or trunk, particularly in EVs and hybrid vehicles where a battery fire represents a unique suppression challenge. At 4 lbs, it fits easily under a seat or in a cargo area.
• RVs and Trailers: Mount inside near the lithium house battery compartment. Unlike dry chemical extinguishers, TRPL-E discharge inside a trailer does not coat electronics and living surfaces with corrosive powder requiring extensive cleanup.
• Golf Carts and UTVs: The compact size and included mounting bracket make it practical for frame mounting on electric golf carts, UTVs, and other recreational electric vehicles.
• Boats and Marine: USCG Type A Size II approved for use on marine vessels, making it the correct unit for boats with lithium house battery systems.
• E-Bikes and Scooters: Store near your charging station for immediate access if a lithium battery charging event results in a fire — statistically the highest-risk scenario for residential lithium battery fires.

The EFX-4LB follows standard NFPA 10 portable fire extinguisher maintenance requirements:

• Monthly Visual Inspection: Verify the pressure gauge is in the green zone, the safety pin and tamper seal are intact, and the nozzle is clear. Confirm the unit is mounted in its designated location and accessible.
• Annual Professional Service: A certified fire extinguisher technician must conduct an external examination per NFPA 10, verify agent condition, and update the inspection tag and service record.
• Post-Discharge: After any discharge the unit must be recharged with fresh TRPL-E agent by a certified service technician before being returned to service. Do not substitute other agents.
• Operating Temperature: The EFX-4LB is rated for use between 40°F and 120°F. Do not store in locations that regularly fall below freezing or exceed 120°F — such as unventilated vehicles in extreme summer heat.

Is the 2-liter unit enough for a home power wall or EV battery fire?

The 2-liter EFX-4LB is designed for personal and residential use and is most effective as a first-response tool on a developing battery fire — stopping a single cell event from escalating to a full pack fire. For larger battery systems like whole-home energy storage or EV packs, the 9-liter EFX9L provides greater agent volume for more sustained suppression. In all cases, evacuate and call 911 if the fire is beyond your immediate control.

Can I use this on my laptop or phone battery fire?

Yes. The 2-liter size is appropriate for small device battery fires involving laptops, tablets, power banks, and similar consumer electronics. Aim at the base of the fire and apply with a sweeping motion. Because TRPL-E is non-abrasive and non-corrosive, it will not cause the secondary damage to electronics that dry chemical discharge would.

Does the wall mounting bracket fit a standard extinguisher bracket location?

The EFX-4LB includes a universal mounting bracket. The 3.5-inch cylinder diameter is smaller than most standard dry chemical extinguishers, so it may not seat correctly in existing larger brackets. Use the included bracket for the most secure mount.

Why does the temperature range top out at 120°F?

TRPL-E is a water-based agent. Sustained exposure to temperatures above 120°F can affect the agent's stability and the cylinder's pressure integrity. Avoid storing the unit in locations that regularly exceed this temperature, such as the trunk of a car in hot climates or an unventilated storage shed in summer. A shaded, climate-controlled location is ideal.
